The Concept of Body and Topology

You need to understand the concept of body and topology for the modeling.

The model consists of bodies.

There are 4 types of bodies.

Body Types

Examples

Notes

Vertex body

It is a body of point.

Wire body

It is a body consisting of lines and/or curves.

The perimeter of a circle is a wire body, too.

Sheet body

It is a body having the area, e.g. rectangles, polygons, circles, etc.

Solid body

It is a body having the volume, e.g. cubes, polyhedrons, spheres, cylinders, etc.

Topologies constitute a body.

For example, a cubic solid body has 6 face topologies.

There are 3 types of topologies.

  • Vertex topology

  • Edge topology

  • Face topology

The body and the topology are different as explained below.

Body

  • It can exist independently.

  • The material property and the body attribute are set on body.

Topology

  • It is a shaping component of body. It cannot exist independently.

  • Boundary conditions are set on topologies.

The body types and the associated topologies are listed below.
