Example17 Microstrip Line Filter(Half Model)

General

  • The filtering characteristics of microstrip lines are analyzed.

  • Unless specified in the list below, the default conditions will be applied.

Options

Select “Ignore the influence of face/edge electrode thickness” *

Correction coefficient for the characteristic impedance: 0.5 *

* This is the default setting. There are no face electrodes with this model. Therefore it is irrelevant to select it or not.

* If the face of symmetry of the 1/2 model is magnetic wall, the correction coefficient is 0.5.

If the face of symmetry is electric wall, the correction coefficient is 2.

Mesh tab, Harmonic analysis tab and Open boundary tab are set as follows.

Model

As the model is symmetric, a half model is created and analyzed. The metal sheet body (METAL) is constructed on the surface of the substrate (SUB).

The air layer (AIR) is rested on top of them. Electric wall (E) is set around the air.

The face of symmetry is set with magnetic wall, as the magnetic filed crosses the face perpendicularly.

Body Attributes and Materials

You may give the thickness to METAL in the body attribute. That does not affect the simulation.
